NFL Week 17 Games

NFL Week 17 Games

I really don't have that much to say this week. We just need to see how the week ends up to see how the seeds fall for the playoffs.

A couple of games I find the most interesting are the Patriots at Dolphins and Packers at Lions.
New England will be playing to win because they haven't locked up the #1 seed yet. Oakland can still take it if the Patriots lose. The Dolphins are notorious for giving the Patriots problems in Miami.

The Lions and Packers game will be for the NFC North championship.

That's all for now. I am spending most of my time on researching the potential Super Bowl matchups, so next week I will make some articles on what I find.

NFL Week 16 Games +Playoff Scenarios

NFL Week 16

Current Playoff Picture:

Projected Playoffs at end of season:

Once again, the 2, 3, and 4 seeds in the NFC are interchangeable. In the AFC, it doesn't really matter who gets the 6 seed, and Oakland and KC are competing for the 2 seed. Baltimore could potentially take the 3 seed from Pittsburgh but I doubt it.

Now we only have 2 weeks left, and there are no more "alternate" roads for some of the teams. Some of the games MUST go a certain way. These last 2 weeks are a prime opportunity to hit some big parlays.

Let's look at the schedule of the playoff contenders:

AFC

Indianapolis (7-7):
@ Oakland - W
vs Jacksonville - W
Indianapolis must win both of these games to make it to the playoffs.

Oakland (11-3):
vs Indianapolis - L
vs San Diego
Oakland must lose to Indianapolis. The SD game is irrelevant except for the Raiders playoff seeding.

Houston (8-6):
vs Cincinnati - L
@ Tennessee - L
Houston must lose BOTH of these games for Indianapolis to make the playoffs. They just benched their starting QB so that will be the excuse for the collapse.

Tennessee (8-6):
@ Jacksonville - L
vs Houston - W
Tennessee must lose to Jacksonville and beat Houston for Indianapolis to make the playoffs. Tennessee still has a small chance for the #6 wild card slot.

Kansas City (10-4)
vs Denver
@ San Diego
These games are irrelevant except for Kansas City's playoff seeding.

Denver (8-6):
@ Kansas City
vs Oakland
These games are irrelevant except for Denver trying to get the #6 wild card. They are not playing well lately, and most of that blame is on the offense.

Pittsburgh (9-5):
vs Baltimore
vs Cleveland
Pittsburgh should have an easy win against Cleveland, and beating Baltimore would put the Ravens playoff hopes in bad shape.

Baltimore (8-6):
@ Pittsburgh
@ Cincinnati
These games are irrelevant except for Baltimore trying to get the #6 seed.

NFC

Minnesota (7-7):
@ Green Bay - W
vs Chicago - W
Minnesota MUST win both of these games to make the playoffs as the #6 seed.

Tampa Bay (8-6):
@ New Orleans - L
vs Carolina - L
Tampa Bay MUST lose both of these games for Minnesota to make the playoffs.

Washington (7-6-1):
@ Chicago
vs New York Giants
Washington must lose at least 1 of these games for the Vikings to make the playoffs. I'm not sure which one they will lose.  It is likely they beat the Bears to setup a more meaningful game against the Giants for drama, but it would be nice if they just lose to Chicago.

New York Giants (10-4):
@ Philadelphia
@ Washington
New York is locked into the 5 seed and I wouldn't be surprised if they win both of these games. Either way it doesn't matter much.

Detroit (9-5):
@ Dallas
@ Green Bay
Detroit must win 1 more game to capture the NFC North title. I suspect they will lose to Dallas to have them playing Green Bay for the division in Week 17. Detroit must win the division for Minnesota to make the playoffs. If they lose to Dallas they should be sure to beat Green Bay the next week.

Dallas (12-2):
vs Detroit
@ Philadelphia
Dallas has essentially locked up the 1 seed (Giants could still get it technically), but I think the Cowboys are safe to be #1. This will set them up to get upset in the playoffs.

Atlanta (9-5):
@ Carolina
vs New Orleans
Atlanta will either be the #3 or #4 seed.

Seattle (9-4-1):
vs Arizona
@ San Francisco
Seattle will likely be the #2 seed. It is unlikely they lose to either of these teams.

Top Picks (5):

Indianapolis over Oakland, Jacksonville over Tennessee, Cincinnati over Houston
These 3 MUST happen for Indianapolis to make the playoffs.

Minnesota over Green Bay, New Orleans over Tampa Bay
These 2 MUST happen for Minnesota to make the playoffs as the #6 seed.

Likely to happen:
New England over New York Jets, San Diego over Cleveland, Seattle over Arizona, New York Giants over Philadelphia

NFL Week 15 Games +Playoff Scenarios

NFL Week 15

With 3 weeks left in the season, it's time to look at the Playoff Picture. I probably won't decode many games this week, it's now mostly just wait and see to hope the pieces fall the right way in the playoff seeding.

This is a tool called the "Playoff Machine" that allows you to pick winners of the last 3 weeks and see how it affects playoff seeding:
http://www.espn.com/nfl/playoffs/machine

This is the current playoff projection after Week 14:

Here is how I am projecting the seeds to fall after the season:

AFC:
#1 - New England
#2 - Kansas City
#3 - Pittsburgh
#4 - Indianapolis
#5 - Oakland
#6 - Denver

In the hunt: Miami, Baltimore, Tennessee, Buffalo

3, 5 and 6 are interchangable. I think Pittsburgh will likely hang on to the 3, and the 5 and 6 will come down to Oakland, Denver, Miami, Baltimore and Tennessee. Miami just lost Tannehill so they are in trouble. Oakland only has 3 losses so they are in very good shape. Denver has a tough upcoming schedule, and who knows about Baltimore and Tennessee. Buffalo has a favorable schedule.

NFC:
#1 - Dallas
#2 - Seattle
#3 - Detroit
#4 - Atlanta
#5 - New York Giants
#6 - Minnesota Vikings

In the hunt: Tampa Bay, Washington, Green Bay

Dallas is solid to retain the #1 overall seed. 2, 3 and 4 are interchangeable, it mainly just depends on where they want the Wild Card matchups to be.  I expect Tampa Bay to lose 3 in a row, and Washington to lose 2 of 3 in order to help Minnesota get into the #6 seed.

Now let's look at the teams next 3 games and how they need to win or lose.

AFC:

Indianapolis (6-7):
@Minnesota - W
@Oakland - W
vs. Jacksonville - W
Indy must win all 3 of these games and have Houston lose 2 of 3, and Tennesee lose 1 of 3.  If the Colts lose to Minnesota, that brings Jacksonville into having to beat both Houston and Tennessee for the Colts to get in. That is highly unlikely.

Houston (7-6):
vs Jacksonville
vs Cincinnati
@Tennessee
Houston must lose 2 of 3 for the Colts to win the division. Houston holds a tie-breaker over Indy. It would be nice if the Jaguars can knock off the Texans to help out.

Tennessee (7-6):
@Kansas City
@Jacksonville
vs Houston
Tennessee must lose 1 of 3 for the Colts to win the division. The Colts hold a tie-breaker over the Titans.

Denver (8-5):
vs New England
@Kansas City
vs Oakland
Denver has a tough schedule, playing the #1 and #2 AFC seeds the next 2 weeks.

Oakland (10-3):
@San Diego
vs Indianapolis - L
@Denver
Oakland has at least 1 more loss coming when the Colts beat them.

Kansas City (10-3):
vs Tennessee - W
vs Denver
@San Diego
Kansas City needs to beat Tennessee to help out the Colts. I think they will hold on to the #2 seed.

Baltimore (7-6):
vs Philadelphia
@Pittsburgh
@Cincinnati
Baltimore has a pretty tough schedule as well, with 2 divisional road games. This should be too much to overcome.

Miami (8-5):
@NY Jets
@Buffalo
vs New England
Miami just lost their QB Tannehill to a knee injury so they are in trouble. They have a fairly easy schedule though, and by Week 17 New England may have locked up the #1 seed and rest starters.

Buffalo (6-7):
vs Cleveland
vs Miami
@ NY Jets
At least Buffalo has an easy schedule if they want to fight for the #6 seed at 9-7.

NFC:

Minnesota (7-6):
vs Indianapolis - L
@ Green Bay (Adrian Peterson returns) - W
vs Chicago - W
Minnesota has to lose to the Colts to help them, and then win the last 2 games to get to 9-7 and the #6 seed.

Tampa Bay (8-5):
@ Dallas - L
@ New Orleans - L
vs Carolina - L
Tampa Bay has to Lose all 3 games for the Vikings to make the playoffs.

Washington (7-5-1):
vs Carolina
@ Chicago
vs New York Giants - L
Washington must lose 2 of 3 to fall out of the wild card and Minnesota to get in.

New York Giants (9-4):
vs Detroit
@ Philadelphia
@ Washington - W
New York has pretty much locked up the #5 seed. They need to beat Washington in Week 17 to help the Vikings get into the #6 seed.

Seattle (8-4-1):
vs Los Angeles
vs Arizona
@ San Francisco
Seattle has an easy remaining schedule. They should at least win 2 of 3 games because the Rams and Niners are pathetic right now.

Dallas (11-2):
vs Tampa Bay - W
vs Detroit
@ Philadelphia
Dallas has to beat Tampa Bay to help Minnesota. They should lock up the #1 seed, I don't think anyone else can catch them.

Detroit (9-4):
@ New York Giants
@ Dallas
vs Green Bay
This is a fairly tough schedule with road games, and Matthew Stafford just injured his throwing hand. Detroit needs to win 1 game to wrap up the Division title. If they lose out and GB wins 2 of 3, GB can still take the division. If that happens, Detroit would be the 6 and Minnesota would be out. So it makes more sense for GB to be the team that gets left out of the playoffs.

Green Bay (7-6):
@ Chicago
vs Minnesota - L
@ Detroit
Green Bay needs to lose Minnesota and that would all but eliminate them.

Picks:

Top Picks:
Indianapolis over Minnesota, Kansas City over Tennessee, Dallas over Tampa Bay.
If any of these 3 are wrong, the whole season narrative of Colts vs Giants/Vikings is coming off the rails.

Fairly certain:
Carolina over Washington, Green Bay over Chicago, Oakland over San Diego
If Washington beats Carolina, they would have to lose to Chicago the next week in order for Minnesota to get the #6. I think Green Bay will win this week to setup the showdown with the Vikings and Adrian Peterson's return.  San Diego has many injuries including Melvin Gordon so they probably fall to the Raiders.

Obvious:
Seattle over Los Angeles, Buffalo over Cleveland, Atlanta over San Francisco

Week 15 Games:

Thursday 12/15:

Los Angeles at Seattle

Saturday 12/17:

Miami at New York Jets

Sunday 12/18:

Green Bay at Chicago
192nd regular matchup. Chicago leads 93-92-6.
194th overall matchup. Chicago leads 94-93-6 (including 1-1 playoffs)

Cleveland at Buffalo
20th regular matchup. Cleveland leads 11-8.
21st overall matchup. Cleveland leads 12-8 (including 1-0 playoffs)

Philadelphia at Baltimore
5th matchup. Eagles lead 2-1-1.
Baltimore is 1-2-1 in the matchup. If the Eagles win it will look like 1-3-1 for the championship coding. This would tie in to the Colts (originally from Baltimore) going for the championship in Andrew Luck's 5th season so I think an Eagles win bodes well.

Tennessee at Kansas City
49th regular matchup. Kansas City leads 27-21.
51st overall matchup. Kansas City leads 29-21 (including 2-0 playoffs)
Interesting that Kansas City needs to beat Tennessee (originally from Houston) in the 51st/49th matchup (SB 51 and Revelation = 49). KC needs to win to help Indianapolis.

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
93rd regular matchup. Pittsburgh leads 57-35.
95th overall matchup. Pittsburgh leads 59-35 (including 2-0 playoffs)

Detroit at New York Giants
43rd regular matchup. Detroit leads 21-20-1.
44th overall matchup. Detroit leads 22-20-1 (including 1-0 playoffs)

Indianapolis at Minnesota
24th regular matchup. Indianapolis leads 15-7-1.
25th overall matchup. Indianapolis leads 16-7-1 (including 1-0 playoffs)
Colts = 24 so that bodes well in the 24th matchup.
If Colts win they would be 16-7 (neglecting the tie). 167 is the 39th prime. Indianapolis located on the 39th parallel North so another favorable alignment for the Colts.

Jacksonville at Houston
30th matchup. Houston leads 18-11.
Can Jacksonville get win #12 to help Andrew Luck #12?

New Orleans at Arizona
29th regular matchup. Arizona leads 15-13.
30th overall matchup. Arizona leads 16-13 (including 1-0 playoffs)

San Francisco at Atlanta
77th regular matchup. San Francisco leads 46-29-1.
79th overall matchup. San Francisco leads 47-30-1 (including 1-1 playoffs)

Oakland at San Diego
114th regular matchup. Oakland leads 61-50-2.
115th overall matchup. Oakland leads 62-50-2 (including 1-0 playoffs)

New England at Denver
47th regular matchup. Denver leads 26-20.
52nd overall matchup. Denver leads 30-21 (including 4-1 playoffs)

Tampa Bay at Dallas
16th regular matchup. Dallas leads 11-4.
18th overall matchup. Dallas leads 13-4 (including 2-0 playoffs).

Monday 12/19:

Carolina at Washington
13th matchup. Washington leads 7-5.
Washington Redskins = 85, so that isn't a good coding for the Panthers, but Carolina really needs to win this to help Minnesota. Fed Ex Field is on the 76th meridian West so that is a good sign for the series to go to 7-6 in Washington.

NFL Week 14 Games

NFL Week 14

Pick Summary:
Oakland [L]
Buffalo +1.5 [L]
Denver +1 [L]
Philadelphia +1 [L]
Arizona +1 [L]
Minnesota ML [W]
Indianapolis ML [L]
NY Jets +2.5 [W]
NY Giants +3 [W]

Not much went right today, except for getting the Jets and Giants upsets right... I was really stunned by the Colts losing. Now we have the playoff scenarios to look at. Everything can still pan out in the long run, but it sure has its ups and downs watching it play out.

December Eighth = 112. Carr is looking to improve to 10-12 on the road (112). If he is successful, Oakland would be 11-2 on the season (112). It would be his 10th road win. Ten = 39. Alex Smith = 39. Commentary:
After looking at both sides of the script, I think the best numbers are the 122 in favor of the Raiders, and the 23 looking grim the Chiefs. Kansas City has been squeaking by in their last 5 games, and Oakland is on a 5 game road win streak. I'm taking Oakland, and the 3.5 points.
Oakland +3.5

Chirs Berman is in agreement, the pick is Da Raidaaazzzzz!!!!

Post Game:
Kansas City 21 - Oakland 13.

Comments:
That didn't go the way I wanted it to, but on to the next one. Oakland had 3 total turnovers, and 2 in the KC red zone so it was disappointing they didn't convert it into touchdowns.
This sets up the playoff scenario a little bit more. Here is a possibility: Oakland losing drops them to the #5 seed wild card. NE takes over the #1 seed, and KC is now the #2 seed. This sets up Oakland to win their wild card game, and go face the Patriots on the road in a "Tuck rule" rematch. Indianapolis can win their Wild Card game and go on the road to play the Chiefs. This is a rematch from the 2013 WC where the Colts came back from 28 points down to win. That sets up the AFC Championship of the "Deflate Gate" rematch of Colts Patriots, which the suspension of D'Qwell Jackson (Colts LB #52) just gave hints for. Recall he is the one who intercepted Tom Brady and caused them to find out the football was deflated. We'll see how the chips fall in the next few weeks.

Game notes:

Commentary:
You have to like the alignment for the Colts to get franchise win 501, and Pagano's 51st win against the Houston Texans (51). This it the game of the week that I am most confident about. They probably lay a smack down just like the Jets last week, but I have no way of guessing the margin of victory.

I see that Wrolstad = 112. If SF loses, they would fall to 1-12. But if they win the series would go to 11-2. So it is hard to determine. Wrolstad wears #4 and the Jets are going for win #4 on the season.

New York is looking to improve to 4-9 on the season. It would be fitting to get it against the 49ers. Bowles birthday is in 49 weeks, so that lines up as well. Bowles used to play for the 49ers in 1991. Bryce Petty = 49, and was just named starter.
Petty's next birthday is in 171 days. San Francisco Forty Niners = 1710.
Bowles is coaching his 29th game with the Jets. Kelly = 29.

Game notes:

The Niners come into the game 1-11. New York = 111. Colin Rand Kaepernick = 111.

I think it makes a lot of sense for the Jets to improve to 4-9 against the 49ers. Bryce Petty = 49, so he will lead the Jets over the 49ers.

McAdoo's next birthday is in 211 days. With a win, he can drop the Cowboys to 11-2.
Manning is going for his 106th win. Prophecy = 106. Elisha Nelson Manning = 106.
McAdoo's birthday was 156 days ago. The 156th prime is 911. Manning's birthday was 11 months 9 days ago (119).

McAdoo is coaching his 13th game with the Giants. Dallas = 13.
If NY wins, it would give Garrett his 46th overall loss. Odell Beckham = 46.
Dallas = 13, so I expect #13 OBJ to have a big game to against them.
Nine = 94. NY is playing for their 9th win to become 9-4.
The Giants series wins sync to Garrett's losses. The Giants can get their 45th regular and 46th overall win in the series. This would give Garrett his 45th regular and 46th overall losses as Coach.

The Franchise's next birthday is in a span of 49 days. Dallas = 49. Jason Garrett = 49. Jerry Jones = 49. Will they get a win? Or will the Giants improve to 9-4, the reflection of 49?

Game notes:
SNF is all about 39, and the team with 39 connections usually wins. SNF = 39. New York = 39. Cowboys = 39. So it kind of cancels out since both equal 39. But it makes sense why they have two 39 teams playing on SNF on a day with 39 numerology.

Commentary:
I like the Giants in the upset here. It would have Eli Manning getting his 106th win, and the Cowboys falling to 11-2, essentially giving a "prophecy" that the Giants will be going to Houston (112). The Giants improve to 6-1 at home, Dallas and Prescott fall to 6-1 on the road. Dallas Cowboys = 61. Sixty One = 131. Championship = 131. Sixty One = 41. Super Bowl = 41. Fourteen = 41.
