Basically every team with a connection to this number has had a storyline in the tournament.
Charlotte = 612.
Charlotte is the site for the biggest upset in Tournament history, the 16 seed defeating a 1 seed.
Virginia, the team to take the fall is located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Even the coach of the UMBC Retreivers, Ryan Odom has 1 season as coach of Charlotte (college) as the interim HC in 2015.
Now for the orange teams:
Orange = 612.
The Syracuse ORANGEMEN have advanced to the Sweet 16 as an 11 seed that was in a First Four play in game.
Clemson Tigers advance to the sweet 16 by blowing out Auburn as a team wearing Orange as well.
Texas Tech = 612.
Texas Tech is in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005, a school who's cheer for the team is "Guns Up" for the Red Raiders.
Memphis Tennessee = 612.
This Memphis storyline looks like a key piece of the riddle.
So this week we had the story of another school shooting at Great Mills High School in LEXINGTON Park, Maryland. (Lexington Kentucky is where UK is). It involved a 17 year old shooter, who was shot by a deputy officer at the school. 17 like the date numerology of the NCAA Final and the 17 victims in the Parkland incident.
As for Memphis, Tubby Smith was just fired as their coach. His first head coaching gig was at his Alma Mater: Great Mills High School back in 1973-1977.
Smith won a National Championship as coach of Kentucky in 1998. The current coach of Kentucky is John Calipari who was the former coach of Memphis. All a big coaching circle here.
Kentucky's next matchup in the Sweet 16 is against Kansas State, and coach Bruce Weber, another 612.
